Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of people passionate about lowering food waste and creating meaningful spaces of connection for isolated Wellingtonians. Applicants need be passionate about building friendships across divides of class and culture, tackling issues of urban injustice, and creating communities of generosity and belonging. A successful applicant will be whole-hearted, looking at this as more than a job. They will be highly strategic, enjoy developing peoples potential, and able to see the inherent value in everyone. They will need great management and communication skills. The Free Store is part of Re-New Communities Trust – a Christian charity – so applicants should be sympathetic to Christian values and our work through the lens of our Christian commitments. This role is 30 hours at living wage.

Qualifications & experience
Previous background in community work would be valuable.
They will need great management, written, and oral communication skills.
Volunteer development and management skills.
Capability connecting across social and cultural divides, and the ability to maintain composure in high-conflict moments.
Knowledge of the commitments made in the articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Confident in diffusing situations and facilitating mediation sessions and restorative disciplinary processes.

Tasks & responsibilities
Holding The Free Store consistent to its values at staff, volunteer and client levels.
Upholding Te Tiriti O Waitangi in all the activities of The Free Store, and looking actively for opportunities to deepen and improve our contribution as a community that sits in the Kāwanatanga sphere.
Supporting and managing key staff, ensuring a positive team culture and that the team are well-supported in their work.
Supporting and developing volunteers, providing proactive support and development.
Managing stakeholder relationships with food suppliers, partnerships with charities and central/local government partners, and funders/supporters.
Setting and maintaining a healthy budget alongside the Re-New Communities Administrator.
Manage the safety and maintenance of facilities. Ensure a high standard of health, safety and wellbeing.
Reporting quarterly to the Re-New Communities Board of Trustees.
