After 11 years of service, the Manager of the Hamilton Christian Nightshelter Trust has decided to step down. He is leaving big shoes that need to be filled by someone who has a passion for supporting some of the less fortunate and most vulnerable members of our community.
The Trust runs two shelters in Hamilton, with 9 beds for guests in the Women’s shelter and 27 beds in the Men’s shelter. The Trust employs two staff in addition to the Manager, who along with volunteers provide day-to-day supervision of the facilities.
Reporting to the Board, the Manager is primarily responsible for all aspects of the Trust’s activities – caring for the guests, safety for all, advocacy for people who are homeless, financial administration, property management, relationship management with stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have a relevant tertiary qualification, a deep understanding of homelessness and strategies for addressing the issues, at least 5 years experience working with people with complex social needs, experience in managing a facility and experience in managing a budget.
The personal qualities the Manager brings to the role will make the difference between the shelters being a roof over the guest’s head and being a warm, supportive environment that empowers them to achieve their personal goals. Key amongst these qualities is the ability to build rapport with our guests and to effectively resolve the issues that flare up from time-to-time.
The role is anticipated to be full time but there is room for flexibility in hours.
