This is an exciting time to join us as we lead on some of New Zealand’s enduring and transformational priorities including: transforming our criminal justice system; honouring our responsibility to Maori; addressing family and sexual violence; and improving access to justice. To deliver on this we have a refreshed organisational strategy and a strong mandate from our Strategic Leadership Team.
The Corporate & Digital Services group has a Ministry-wide view on organisational issues, and a strong focus on enabling the business to be more efficient, effective and agile. This includes championing staff engagement, developing a positive culture and behaviours, managing health and safety across the Ministry, and the leadership of the Ministry’s people, property, information and data, and technology.
The strategic context for the team is using evidence and insights to deliver better services and outcomes, along with unlocking the value of data and information. The Data and Information team comprises:
Strategic information – optimising the use of data to support operations and decision making
Business Intelligence – providing the expertise and guidance to assist the Ministry to turn data into insight
Content and Library Services – day to day administration and support of digital and paper records information, and provision of library services
The team is responsible for leading the effective management and utilisation of information at the Ministry. This includes unlocking the value of information, planning and managing our data warehousing and analytics platforms, and ensuring that the Ministry’s data and information is managed as a strategic business asset.
Key deliverables include:
Building the strategic direction and expressing the enterprise vision for data analytics and information management to support business outcomes
The development and delivery of data & information strategy and governance
Optimising the use of data and information to support day to day operations and decision support
Developing information architecture and roadmaps that inform and support the Ministry’s business strategy
Leading and developing the development of information change and culture
Advising the senior leadership team and governance forums on information priorities and future needs
Ensuring that data and information can be managed as a strategic asset, is transparent, trusted, accessible and available to deliver business value

He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished leader able to influence others at a senior level, have strong influencing and collaboration skills and a track record of delivery in a complex environment along with:
A background in data science, data management and analytics tools
Planning and delivery of data warehousing, reporting and analytics platforms
Have an understanding of the Public Records Act (2005) and regulatory framework
Be a credible senior leader who has the experience and capability to provide great quality advice that challenges the status quo
Have proven experience providing strategic leadership within a large organisation
Have strong relationship and interpersonal skills: able to use and build on existing connections to leverage results for service delivery. Relates well to everyone, understands own impact and manages conflict well.
Be a leader people want to be inspired by – great at inspiring and motivating others and getting the best from individuals and teams.
Have working knowledge of the machinery of Government.
