Roading Engineer – Maintenance and Operations – Canterbury – Hurunui District Council

A recent internal transition has created a vacancy for an exciting opportunity. Make this role your own, with potential to re-style the position depending on the skills you bring to this small team.

Reporting to the Service Delivery Team Leader – Roading, this position will manage the outsourced Roading contract, focussing on delivering a great experience for our Customers. You will ensure the delivery of a reliable, fit for purpose network with cost efficient and effective outcomes.

You will continue to build on the existing solid relationship with the Contractor and work closely with them to ensure post – earthquake reconstruction is performed with a “whole of life” view.

A roading or civil engineering background is a must and an understanding of asset, contract and project management principles will also be highly regarded. You will possess excellent communication skills, have an innovative approach to new methods of working, be able to succinctly and clearly document working procedures and work well with contractors and a range of stakeholders.

The Hurunui is a large, rural district comprising of small townships and settlements and a widespread network of roads and utility infrastructure with only a population of 12,800. The Council’s long term plan signals significant spending on infrastructure in the coming years. The district’s Roading network comprises of approximately 1,500 kilometres of local roads.

The position is primarily based in our Amberley office, 40 minutes north of Christchurch and the entrance to the Waipara wine growing region and our award winning Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa.
