Growing demand means we seek an experienced, confident Structural Engineer to join our sales and marketing team as “Project Engineer”.   This role would suit a mid-level Structural Engineer with experience in delivering design solutions across a wide range of applications in both the residential and commercial sectors. The role would particularly suit an engineer with a passion for engineered timber design solutions.

XLam has pioneered the introduction of Cross Laminated Timber into NZ over the last three years, and has just signed its first contract in Australia.  We believe that CLT will change the way we build and the successful applicant will be part of making that happen. This is a full time permanent position based at our Nelson plant, but some travel will be required.  A tertiary qualification in an engineering discipline and relevant industry knowledge and experience is essential for this role.

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

Ability to interact well within a team environment
Experience in client relationship management
Confident and effective communication skills – written & verbal (including public speaking)
Proven track record for delivering structural design and construction monitoring for both residential & commercial projects
Understanding of engineering design standards and best practice in NZ and/or Australia
Familiarity with the New Zealand and/or Australian Building Codes
CPEng accreditation from IPENZ as a practicing engineer would be favoured but is not essential
High level of proficiency using computer software, in particular Microsoft Office suite
Must be enthusiastic and ambitious with a willingness to learn and develop
Must be able to work collaboratively in a multi-discipline office environment

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Play an active role in XLam’s product development program
Act as the link between XLam and the customer project team
Assist with technical training of designers wishing to specify XLam’s products
Provide technical support for sales and marketing activities
Present technical design solutions and case studies to small and large groups of design professionals
Prepare preliminary structural proposals and provide budget pricing
Prepare tender submissions for projects from architectural and structural consent drawings
