The Department of Conservation (DOC) manages a nation-wide infrastructure of walking tracks, structures and huts that provide access and shelter in New Zealand’s great outdoors. We need a structural engineer, chartered under the NZ Chartered Professional Engineers Act 2002, to supplement the capacity of the existing engineering team.
Your expertise is needed to conduct asset inspections, specify maintenance and upgrade work and design new structures ranging from boardwalks and viewing platforms to 150 m span suspension bridges. You will also provide general engineering advice and staff asset inspector training and mentoring.
We need you to have a broad structural engineering background, preferably with some exposure to cable-structure engineering and AutoCAD proficiency, experience in NZ’s backcountry, a good level of fitness and a willingness to travel. You must be self-motivated and happy working with minimal supervision.
The preferred locations for this role are Hamilton or Taupo but other locations may be considered.
