About our group and team
Education Infrastructure Service (EIS), a part of the Ministry of Education, creates and supports safe, healthy, inspiring and ICT enabled learning environments. EIS manages the Crown’s second largest property portfolio of around 2,500 schools with a book value of $17.8 billion, is responsible for the largest payroll in the country, and transports over 100,000 students to and from school each day.
The School Transport group, within EIS has recently insourced over $200 million of services which were previously managed by the private sector.

About this role
The Transport Officer – Specialised Education School Transport Assistance (SESTA) role within the School Transport Officers team is a semi-specialised role which will assist the team deliver two key functions:
Deliver conveyance allowances to students who are eligible for assistance. This includes eligibility checking, consulting with stakeholders, Transport Service Providers, caregivers, Learning Support (MoE), processing of applications, and timely delivery of payments.
Deliver customer services by answering and initiating phone calls with stakeholders and responding to emails within the specified time frame.

About you
To be successful in the role, you’ll be working collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders, developing relationships at all levels. It is essential that you are capable and experienced in an operational context, and have a tertiary qualification in a related field – or relevant experience.

You will also offer:
School or public transport service planning/management experience (desired but not mandatory)
Technical skills and ability e.g. GIS systems, Mapinfo, SQL
Experienced in public sector operations and reporting mechanisms
Experience in stakeholder communications
Relationship management skills, a high level of tact, diplomacy, resilience and patience
Self-managing and ability to work alone and within a team
The ability to coach and mentor others in the team including mentoring and coaching when settled in
The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
