Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Disability and Inclusion Adviser to join the Disability Services team on a 13 month fixed-term contract to cover the parental leave of a permanent Adviser. The role is to work with students to determine their disability related needs and provide quality advice, access to services, information and coaching to assist them to fulfil their academic aspirations.

Key responsibilities: 
• Using the ecological model identify students’ strengths and disability related needs and establish education access plans that articulate and communicate these to University staff
• Support the wellbeing of students through prioritising pastoral care including the active case management of students with moderate to high needs and students of concern
• Connect students with internal services, other student services, halls of residence, peer support and external agencies
• Foster academic achievement in students through monitoring academic results, promoting realistic workloads and identifying strategies that support success
• Keep accurate and up to date records
• Support University staff to create an inclusive environment by proactively taking opportunities to expand their knowledge of disability inclusive approaches

Mōu – About you
You will hold a professional allied health qualification and current registration in social work, counselling or occupational therapy. You will have a minimum of two years in the social service, disability, health or education fields and have demonstrated ability in needs assessment and high quality client service.
You will have experience working with people with disabilities and respect for the lived experience and expertise of disabled people. You will have strong organisational, administrative and computer skills. Ideally you will have experience and knowledge of the issues for students in tertiary education and awareness of disability issues, including mental health.
