Te āhua o Te Tūrunga – The nature of the position
This position has a broad scope of residential and commercial projects throughout the wider Waikato region. Meeting clients to understand and discuss their needs, you will be producing quality, environmentally sustainable designs. Utilising your practical understanding, analytical ability and creative flair, you will seek to produce innovative and sustainable designs which are complementary and sympathetic to the landscapes they are part of.
Involved in all phases of a construction project, from the initial discussion with the client through to the final delivery of the completed structure, you will spend a great deal of time exploring your client’s requirements, forming relationships with construction contractors, and others. Successfully communicating your vision persuasively, you will have a skill set that creates strong and lasting relationships.
Ngā tino Pūkenga/Whēako – Essential skills/experiences for the role
Understanding of tikanga Māori and, ideally, the ability to converse in Te Reo Māori would be highly beneficial.

Skills, competencies and experience for this position are to include:
Relevant qualification and current registration and NZ experience.
Experience in design, documentation and managing projects.
A strong passion for design and can demonstrate a high end, and mixed portfolio of design.
A proficient understanding of New Zealand construction methods in order to provide detailed design in compliance with the NZBC.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong graphical skills.
Teamwork – a willingness to work within a collaborative environment.
Working in a previous position where you held responsibility for your own design work.
The experience to manage your own projects from initial consultation through to practical completion.
Marked sense of self-motivation and a highly disciplined approach to managing own workload.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
The position offers exciting commercial, community, and urban design projects as well as interesting high-end residential work.
In a sustainably focused, growing practice, you will have the opportunity of flexible working arrangements in either a full time or part time role (pro-rata salary).
You will also have the opportunity to work alongside a Senior Architect Māori who will tautoko you through the different aspects of the position and the organisation.
