Product Development Scientist
Hi-Aspect is an advanced biomaterial development company specialising in the delivery of protein based gels and devices for application in skin and wound care.
The company produces a range of protein formulations from natural starting materials that provide a better, cheaper and more versatile solution to address the market’s need to maintain the biological activity of ingredients in topical formulations.
Hi-Aspect is a start-up venture with a small team that was established in 2015.
We aim to grow by:
Building a portfolio of protected materials and formulations based on our proprietary protein technology
Identifying key market needs in skincare and wound care and developing smart products to address them, and
Distributing and developing new products based on strong science and compelling market attributes
We are working towards launching our initial suite of products on the market and we are looking for someone to join our team as a market focused Product Development Scientist. We need someone who will be able to undertake the research to meet our product needs as well as be part of our long-term research and development programme.
Shortlisting for the role will begin on 20th September and we would expect the appointee to be able to start in October 2017
The role is full time and will be based at the Callaghan Innovation site at 69 Gracefiled Road, Lower Hutt, New Zealand.
Applicants must have New Zealand residency or be otherwise qualified to work in New Zealand.
The focus for the role will be the development of novel formulations and small-scale manufacture of topical, over the counter skin care products, with a vision of moving into wound care in the future.
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the Product Development Scientist position will be responsible for conducting the technical and experimental programme for Hi-Aspect Limited.
General Description and Responsibilities
Identifying and leading product development projects in consultation with the CTO
Independently undertaking laboratory experiments to solve technical issues for the company as identified by the CTO
Supporting the development of quality control and compliance testing assays and procedures
Assisting in the technology transfer of production methods and testing procedures to contract manufacturing sites
Contributing to the intellectual property developed by the company
Maintaining accurate records of experimental design and findings
Maintaining stock solutions and samples, as required
Identifying suppliers and providing ordering recommendations for new reagents, as required by the lab
Undertaking desk-based market research on desirable properties, manufacturing routes potential markets for new products for the company
Being responsible for your own and others health and safety, by taking appropriate action to deal with work place hazards, accidents and/or incidents in ways that comply with our H&S policies, procedures and systems
Promoting healthy and safe behavior at work
A Post Graduate qualification in biochemistry, pharmacy formulation or other relevant field
At least 3 years experience in the laboratory environment
A multidisciplinary skillset including standard biophysical, biochemical and wet chemistry techniques and previous laboratory experience is essential
Understanding of safety requirements in lab work
Excellent problem solving and quantitative skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to design and undertake experimental work without direct supervision
Ability to work well in a team environment
Ability to engage with clients and partners of the company as required
Some familiarity with biomaterial characterization using spectroscopy and microscopy techniques would be preferred but not essential
Evidence of strong academic achievement would be highly advantageous.
