The Senior Advisor, Learning and Development (Border) position reports into the Learning and Development team within the Ministry’s Human Resources team.

The Corporate, Governance and Information Services Group support the Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executives through the delivery of high quality internal services. The functions of this group are:

Internal Procurement

Property

This position provides learning and development services to the Immigration New Zealand Group.

About the Role

The Senior Advisor, Learning and Development (Border) is a co-located position with Border Operations. The Senior Advisor, Learning and Development (Border) reports to the Team Leader, Learning and Development, but will be situated with the Border Operations staff at Auckland International Airport. They will bring their business understanding and perspective to work in partnership with their manager and staff they are assisting on a day-to-day basis.

The role of the Senior Advisor, Learning and Development (Border) is to work with MBIE’s Learning and Development team to develop, evaluate and maintain core learning and development products and training.  This person would be expected to ensure the appropriate mix of training solutions are in place to meet the needs of the Border Operations teams, and work with MBIE’s Learning and Development team to develop and implement the learning and development strategy and frameworks whilst creating linkages between the delegations framework and learning pathways for Border roles.

Skills/Experience

Proven experience in designing and delivering behavioural and technical skills training programs against best practice training and development methodology
Previous experience working in a L&D role in a large organisation
Proven experience in developing L&D strategies and frameworks and linking them to career development opportunities
Ability to coach and mentor L&D peers
Knowledge of and experience in the use of technology based training tools
Experience in conducting training needs analysis
Well-developed presentation and group facilitation skills
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team
Good knowledge of adult learning principles
