Manager – Northland Youth Theatre – Northland

Northland Youth Theatre is a not-for-profit charitable trust set up to provide training and performance opportunities for the young people of Northland in theatre craft. We deliver our training across a range of disciplines to young people from age 9 to 18 years.

An exciting 20-30 hour per week role has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced person to develop and manage the program of work and ensure sound planning and financial control of the organization.

Job Description

Purpose of Role

To develop and manage the program of work for NYT including but not limited to; classes, holiday workshops and performance activities.

To manage the resources, including staff of NYT and to ensure sound planning and financial control of the company.


The post holder reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

Responsible for

Office administrator.

All teaching staff.


Specific Duties

Manage class schedules for each term. Currently NYT runs classes for seniors and juniors on Tuesday evenings. Plans are in place to deliver technical classes with Forum North.

Develop with staff holiday programs.

Develop new class structures as required.

Recruitment of staff to deliver classes and projects/productions.

Develop performance projects with teaching staff.

Manage relationships with all funders of NYT.

Apply for funding for projects as required.

Manage all stakeholder relations.

Business plan (a requirement of WDC and Charities commission).

With the board of trustees develop plans for the future growth and sustainability of NYT.

Respond to requests for NYT involvement in community events, i.e., Christmas in the Park.

Maintain and develop/expand on NYT events such as Halloween.

The post holder is responsible for the following areas of financial control.

Yearly Budgets.

Project Budgets

Arranging end of year accounts and audit.

All budget reporting to funding bodies.

Bi-monthly financial reporting to the board.

Maintaining charitable status

Other areas of responsibility

Building maintenance.

Equipment and resources.

Manage relationships with other organisations within Whangarei, Northland and beyond including, Creative Northland, Forum North, Whangarei District Council, Company of Giants, The Turner Centre in Kerikeri, The Quarry Arts Centre, Toi Whakaari, schools, colleges and other organisations and institutions.

20 to 30 hours per week – negotiable
